I love Umrigar’s books – they are so thought provoking and I always feel like I’ve learned so much without being lectured.
Thanks for being on the tour Serena!
I read this one earlier this year and really enjoyed it too. She creates such interesting characters and situations doesn’t she?
I adored this book! Your review is spectacular!
I LOVED this book. I also enjoyed The Space Between by the author and she has quickly become a favorite author of mine.
This book has been on my tbr list for a while and your review confirms why it should be on there. I enjoy novels about India and ones with a critical look at Indian society in particular.
I’ve read two of her books and after both of them, I felt as if they were a bit too stereotypical and possibly even a bit too dramatic, if that makes any sense.
I didn’t find that at all, but her writing is just so captivating to me that I get pulled into the story. There was one moment in this story that I thought was cliched, but I guess I was really in the mood for some sentimentality and examination of friendship in the aftermath of a social movement.
The direction that this book went in was different than I thought it would be, but I enjoyed it very much anyway. It definitely made me think about how I and my friends had changed over the years.
She packs so many things into this novel and it is very nuanced in terms of what influences each character since their parting 30 years earlier. I was riveted.
I really need to make time for this one, especially since you enjoyed it so much. Thanks again for giving me your extra copy. đ
You’re welcome. I hope you enjoy it.
I loved The Weight of Heaven so expected this book to be fabulous as well. I can’t wait to read it!
I was so emotionally invested by the end of this one that I didn’t want it to end. I wanted more about what happened to these women.
