Mailbox Monday #163

Mailbox Mondays (click the icon to check out the new blog) has gone on tour since Marcia at A Girl and Her Books, formerly The Printed Page passed the torch. This month’s host is the Metro Reader.

Kristi of The Story Siren continues to sponsor her In My Mailbox meme.

Both of these memes allow bloggers to share what books they receive in the mail or through other means over the past week.

Just be warned that these posts can increase your TBR piles and wish lists.

Here’s what I received this week:

1. West of Here by Jonathan Evison, unrequested from Algonquin Books, which I’ll likely pass on.

2. Resilience edited by Eric Nguyen, sent to me by poet Emma Eden Ramos for review. “Money from the sale of this book will be used to help fund The Make It Safer Project, which aims to bring LGBT-related books into schools and homeless shelters and into the hands of LGBT kids. For more information on the Make It Safe Project, visit www.makeitsafeproject.org. For more information on Resilience, visit www.betterbookproject.blogspot.com.”

3. The Virgin Journals by Travis Laurence Naught for review from the poet.

4. Gabby by Gabrielle Gifford and Mark Kelly, borrowed from my mom.

5. Coming Up For Air by George Orwell, which I bought at the library for 50 cents.

6. Mr. Churchill’s Secretary by Susan Elia MacNeal, which I received from LibraryThing Early Reviewers for April review.

What did you receive this week?

  1. Nice mix of reads!

  2. Nice selection. I’d like to read Gabrielle Gifford’s book.

  3. Mr. Churchill’s Secretary especially catches my eye…enjoy!

  4. I didn’t realize Gabby was out already. Enjoy your reading, Serena!

  5. Wow — such a nice range of books! Resilience sounds intense — but a great cause. Enjoy the Orwell and the last two — Churchill’s secretary and the Giffords one — sound amazing.

  6. Beth Hoffman says

Very nice mailbox! I’d like to read Coming up for Air and have just now put it on my list.

  7. I am curious about Gabby. She is so inspirational! I am in awe of her strength!

  8. Laurel-Rain Snow says

Nice mailbox! Hope you enjoy them all….

Here’s MY MONDAY MEMES POST – and if you’re interested, here’s

  9. I’ll be interested to see what you think of Gabby – I really admire Giffords.

  10. Nice mailbox – I hope you enjoy your new books!

  11. I tend to pass those Algonquin books on myself, though I keep one or two here and there that sound good to me.

I can’t wait to hear what you think about Mr. Churchill’s Secretary. Enjoy!

  12. Mr. Churchill’s Secretary looks good. Happy reading!

  13. Enjoy your new books Serena. I’m curious about Coming Up for AAir.

  14. I got West of Here, too. Couldn’t get into that one, but Algonquin sent some other books that look wonderful! I don’t mind a surprise package, I must say. Plus, the cats have been enjoying the tunnel I made out of one Algonquin shipping envelope. 🙂

The George Orwell looks like the most fun to me. Probably ought to read some of the Orwell I’ve already got. I’ve only managed to read 1984, so far.
