Tourist Season by Brynne Weaver, narrated by Samantha Brentmoor and Robert Hatchet, is set in the seaside town of Cape Carnage, a town in which murder has become a theme that attracts tourists. It helps that one of the most famous families in the town, the Lancasters, are at the center of a murder mystery.
Harper Starling happens to be an award winning gardener and caretaker for Arthur Lancaster. She knows that he is losing his memory, but they both will do anything to protect their small town from murderers and other criminals. To keep him from indulging in his hobbies, Harper will hide his keys in the dishwasher and redirect him to other tasks at hand.
Enter Nolan Rhodes, a man on a revenge mission. His target: the woman who caused the death of his brother and his severe injuries and left them for dead.
He’s been on a mission to right the wrong, eliminating everyone involved, except for the woman who walked away from them — Harper Starling. But he may have bitten off more than he can chew because she is no mere gardener. She’s a protégé of Arthur Lancaster, the man that a sleuthing group suspects is the renowned serial killer La Plume. But she’s also not who Nolan thinks she is.
This is a dark romance, so please expect bondage and other things.
I was hooked on this story more for the mystery of La Plume and Harper Starling. I also absolutely love the dark humor and murderously dark snarkiness. The romance is really one of obsession turned lust, not really love. With each page turned, the thrilling moments unravel. Tourist Season by Brynne Weaver has a cast of dark and humorous characters buried in a murder mystery and playing a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse.
I’m really looking forward to Harvest Season, part two in this series.
