My old domain, Savvy Verse & Wit, has a new look.
What started out as a blog on blogger and a place where I talked about poems I was reading in magazines (not even reviewing books yet) is now my author website.
With the forthcoming publication of Echoes Carry from Beltway Editions, I had begun thinking about my old blog. It had been fallow when I moved to Substack. It has been my domain for 20+ years, and it wanted a makeover.
The journey started with seeking out designers and bids, but the best part was finding that the woman who created the original design was looking for a design project. I was so happy to hear that she wanted to tackle a creative project and the price was right. Thank you to Shauna at Servously for her hard work on re-imagining this author page.
I took inspiration from Jericho Brown, Billy Collins, and David Whyte, but I also wanted it to carry over some of the elements and colors from the old blog. Website design is a collaborative process and it has been an adventure.
Some elements worked well, while others did not translate well to mobile. I wanted the site to be accessible by people wherever they are viewing, and I hope we’ve accomplished that.
I am not a technical genius by any means, but it helps to know people who can help. I’d rather have someone do it right than end up breaking an entire site myself.
Most of my posts will be here, but there is a publications page, about page, and place where I will update people on events.
I’d love to hear what you think, especially if you remember the old look. Let me know if there are any elements you like or that could be improved. I want it to be as user friendly as possible.
